I'm the co-founder and production manager of streetwear clothing label Geedup.Co. I initially made the move up to the so-called sunny state from Sydney to study journalism. I wasn't feeling the public relations side of things, and soon found myself sitting dormant on my ass for six months. It then dawned on me, as some sort of epiphany, 'I need to start a clothing label'. I hit my brother and business partner up, put pen to paper and here we are three years down the track, stocked internationally, our own store and a reputable name in the industry.
Why do you do it?
I could give you some sort of whack cliched answer about how it's my creative release and shit, but to be completely honest, man, I just love walking down the street and seeing cats wearing our gear. It's the primary incentive to keep going! In saying that, though, I am most definitely passionate about streetwear. It's become a culture, a lifestyle.
What do you love about the city you live in?
Mate, don't get me wrong, I do love Brisbane. It's super chilled and everyone just seems to slide through their days, worry free. But home is where the heart is and Sydney is the place I love. I graduate from my design course in September, and then I'm homebound. After I pass through my favourite city Berlin first, of course. That place is completely and utterly brilliant, in every which way!
Where did you go for your last holiday?
Haha, BERLIN.
What's your favourite item of clothing? Why?
At the moment, bucket hats! They're just ill, I don't know what it is about them I like, they can just be so emotive. Whenever you see someone rocking a buckety, you know he is having a good time! We have a couple coming out in our upcoming spring/summer 13/14 release. They're dope.
What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
I dunno, I was a little shit of a kid! I can't really remember watching much else other than the English Premier League, because soccer was all I cared about. But that weird 'Round The Twist show on SBS was pretty sick.
If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
Oh man, I'd have to pick two. The first just because it's completely ludicrous to even imagine it; prehistoric times with the dinosaurs and shit. The second is a little more relative and it would be back to the early to mid '80s where the original hip hop culture was really thriving.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook for us?
Something out of Jamie Oliver's 15 minute meals, that dude is a food wizard. Everything I have cooked out of that book has been tasty as!
What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
That we have one hundred percent control over what it is we decide to do. The quicker you learn to take responsibility and learn to be accountable for yourself, the quicker you move forward. And nobody wants to move backward, fuck that!
Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
We just met, lad! If nobody else knows it, I ain't telling you! Haha.
Are you happy with your work/life balance?
Yeah most definitely, it's absolutely imperative to find that balance.
How do you define success?
Success is such a vague word. I think its something we all look for, but we will only really ever find it in ourselves, or in being the richest fucker alive!
What's your spirit animal?
Sloth!
