Additionally, I wear the hat of a community radio host, bringing music, stories, and voices from our diverse neighbourhoods to the airwaves. It's a beautiful intersection of culture, community, and creativity.
Why do you do it? I do this work because I believe in the power of community and the importance of amplifying Indigenous voices. It's a privilege to help foster connections and create spaces where culture and heritage are celebrated.
Through my radio show, I get to share the music and stories that resonate with our community, making every broadcast a chance to inspire and connect with others.
What do you love about the city you live in? Oh, where to begin? Townsville is a melting pot of cultures, art, and vibrant energy! I love the way the streets come alive with music festivals, art shows, and community events.
The natural beauty surrounding us, with parks and rivers, offers a perfect escape from the urban hustle. Plus, the people here are incredibly warm and welcoming, making it a truly special place to call home.
Where did you go for your last holiday? My last break took me to Port Douglas where I ran a half marathon with my family, participating in events, as well as I train to run the New York City Marathon in five weeks.
What's your favourite item of clothing? Probably something denim with a cute top, love boots and I love anything that holds colour and vibrancy generally.
What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid? I loved 'Arthur', 'Rugrats', 'Brother Bear'; anything that reminded me of love and family!
If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go? I'm travelling to New York in five weeks. After I run the marathon there, I'll be heading to Elvis Presley's house in Memphis, which is something I've always wanted to do. So excited!
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? I'd make coconut curry chicken for sure and finish it off with a Sara Lee sticky date pudding and ice cream of course.
What's the best lesson you've ever learned? That vulnerability is strength. Embracing my true self, flaws and all, has opened doors to authentic connections and deeper relationships. It's taught me that being real with others can foster understanding and create a supportive community. Also show up! Show up scared. Show up unsure because you never know, something magic might just happen for you.
Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows... Hmmmmm... That would no longer be a secret 😉.
Are you happy with your work/life balance? Absolutely! I make a conscious effort to prioritise both my career and personal life. By setting boundaries and being intentional about my time, I ensure I have space for creativity, family, and self-care. It's a continuous journey, but I'm grateful for the balance I've found.
How do you define success? To me, success is about impact and fulfilment. It's not just about accolades or financial gain; it's about making a positive difference in my community and being true to myself. If I can inspire others and create meaningful connections, that's the real success.
What's your spirit animal? The Garrgay Hawk. It symbolises freedom, perspective, and strength. Hawks soar high above, able to see the bigger picture, and I aspire to embody that vision in my work and life. Plus, they're incredibly majestic and resilient, which resonates deeply with me. It's also my native totem.
