I work for Utopia Records in and around the shop, fiddling with our website and odds and ends in between. I’m also doing a Bachelors in Music working towards a Masters in Teaching, and play in a few bands which I would now like to shamelessly plug: ROBOSEXUAL, FACE COMMAND and MC FILTH WIZARD.
Why do you do it?
Working in a changing industry is a hell of a challenge and it’s incredibly rewarding to be in a tiny corner of it that’s keeping up with those changes and serving a purpose. So I guess I like serving a purpose towards something that’s serving a purpose.
What do you love about the city you live in?
Contrary to popular curmudgeonary doom and gloom bullshit about ‘The Music Scene’, Sydney has a shit load of killer bands playing all over the place all of the time. On top of that they’re releasing top shelf EPs, 7 inches and albums.
Where did you go for your last holiday?
My wonderful girlfriend and I stayed overnight at the zoo.
What's your favourite item of clothing? Why?
I have a poncho for around the house and playing with MC Filth Wizard.
What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
Space Ghost Coast To Coast without question.
If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
Band Of Gypsies playing Fillmore East New Year’s Eve 1969.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook for us?
Pasta with everything from the fridge in it.
What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
My dad, who’s also my boss, says: “Rookwood Cemetery is full of people who thought they were indispensable.” Which is good advice, on top of sounding quite metal.
Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
I feel genuinely sad if I run over too many pedestrians playing Grand Theft Auto. Good thing I don’t have much time to actually play it.
Are you happy with your work/life balance?
Oh yes. It gets a little hard balancing everything but it works out.
How do you define success?
Finding what makes you happy and doing it.
What's your spirit animal?
A duck.
