Aimee Chapman - scenestr of the day

What do you do? I'm currently the Associate Producer for the upcoming Bluesfest Melbourne festival, a bunch of other international tours and I'm the programmer for all the event goodness at ACMI's Emporium Creative Hub in Bendigo. The rest of my time is spent producing and performing electronica/ trip-hop style music around the traps.

Why do you do it? I'm a long-time addict to collaboration with other mad-capped creatives to get people together for musical and artistic goodness. Music is the ultimate connector of people and artists are brilliant at distilling everything from heartbreak to integral political messages into a form that cuts straight through where it can really make a difference.

What do you love about the city you live in? I have the ultimate city/ country combo. After a lifetime of living inner city Melbourne, I made the move to a very small town in regional Victoria about five years ago and have really settled into a synthesis of both worlds. I love to spend time being inspired by all the colour, movement and action happening in Melbourne, and then head back up the Calder Highway to the space, the nature and a thriving artistic community in the Goldfields.

Where did you go for your last holiday? I spent a few days braving the freezing water at Apollo Bay recently and had a couple of absolute necessary days off body surfing with my little humans.

What's your favourite item of clothing? I have an incurable thrifting obsession and so narrowing it to a single item is simply impossible, but make it vintage, kitschy, colourful and joyful and I'm in.

What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid? I was so obsessed with the Japanese anime 'G-Force' as a kid. I used to go to sleep at night sending a request to the universe to wake up as the character Princess.

If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go? I'd zap myself directly to the front row of Nina Simone performing in Paris circa '75.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? I could make and eat Osaka-style Okonomiyaki all day, every day – so if you're up for that, then come on over.

What's the best lesson you've ever learned? I do think it's valuable to remember that everyone else is too busy worrying about themselves to be thinking intently about you, so just do your things without so much worrying about how it's going to be perceived.

Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows... I can sing Roxette's 'Listen To Your Heart' in Greek and 'Old McDonald Had A Farm' in Italian. #lifeskills

Are you happy with your work/ life balance? I have worked infinitely hard to create a life that allows me to explore a massive chunk of my creative and personal curiosities. It's still a work in progress; I suspect I still work way too much, but the breadth of what I get to do inside my creative career and with my family and friends is so satisfying.

How do you define success? Waking up with your brain full of the winning people and experiences in your life rather than the insane to-do list. What's your spirit animal? If scientists were to cross some kind of wild feline creature with Roisin Murphy, I'd be here for it.
