Lead singer of local, rock band Young Lions, Zachary Britt is excited about the group headlining the second instalment of Deadlam Festival at The Brightside.
“We have definitely focused on the crowd in Brisbane. Every time we have played [The] Brightside we have sold it out, so it will be great to upgrade to the carpark stage and try and get a thousand people to go mental.”
After releasing their second album, ‘Blue Isla’, earlier this year, the band has enjoyed immediate success having grown their supporter base thanks to regular play on Triple J. “Radio exposure can help so much in Australia. It doesn't matter whether you have the best product or the worst product.
"If people hear you, you are still going to get somewhere. So I think Triple J in that manner, have given us a lot of exposure and an audience, and it’s supported our live shows as well,” Zac says.
When it comes to their stagecraft, Zac says the band is always trying new things. “We definitely try and have an unpredictability to our live performances all the time, and to make sure people will see something different every time and be excited every time. But we also think about it and make sure we put in a massive effort that is going to engage people and be interesting.”
When asked about the future for Young Lions, the singer is confident. “We all know that we are going to tour the world for the next ten years and it will be something that we do successfully.
“We all earn enough to survive off it now, so in the next ten years I definitely see ourselves selling out Rod Laver Arena and Riverstage with Young Lions because I know it is doable. I know the steps to get there and I'm going to do it.”
Young Lions play Deadlam Festival at The Brightside 30 October. The band will also support Short Stack during their national tour.
