You Am I Band Together To Perform A Free Brisbane Concert For Charity The Breakfast Club

You Am I
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and some beyond.

You Am I have once again proven they're some of the nicest guys in Australian rock & roll, with a heart-warming gesture to play a free concert in Brisbane for charity.

In an industry often cluttered with red tape and backstage demands, You Am I are cutting through the noise; flying into Brisbane for just over six hours to play a one-off gig in Redcliffe, all to raise funds and awareness for The Breakfast Club, a grassroots charity feeding and supporting the region's homeless.

The free event, Rockin' 4 The Homeless, which was an annual event prior to COVID makes its return later this month (Sunday 22 June) at Dolphins Leagues Club in Redcliffe.

You Am I will headline the line-up, going onstage at 3.15pm; they'll be joined by a number of local stalwarts including Screamfeeder and Dreamkillers as well as a stack of local acts.

Baltimore Gun Club, Box Falcon, Dead Hand Blues, Jonny Sonic, Mini Moshers, Pete Cullen And The Hurt, Punktilious, Salt & Steel, The Square Tugs and Tripsetta will also join the bill.

For You Am I, this isn't part of a flashy national tour. It's a good old-fashioned love job. "I called the band and said, 'I need you in town for a love job'," Dan Nebe, Event Director and founder of Rockin' 4 The Homeless, says.

"[It] took [You Am I bassist] Andy Kent a week to get back to me with a date – but once it was in, they were locked and loaded. No invoice. Just heart." The band will fly in from Cairns, head straight to Redcliffe, unload, play, meet the community, and jump back on a flight to Melbourne – all in the same day. No big entourage. No strings attached.

The event will also feature a major raffle prize that is way better than your average meat tray. One lucky punter (plus a mate) will walk away with a proper rock & roll experience. The winner will score a signed You Am I guitar, a 10-minute private backstage hang with the band, drink from the band's rider (yes, there'll be booze), a bag of exclusive You Am I merch, and a private photo op with the band pre-show.

There's no online bidding. No VIP lists. No industry insiders. You've got to be there to win it. "You Am I didn't come for the pay cheque," adds Dan. "They came because they give a damn. That's what makes this more than a gig – it's a moment."

For over 20 years, The Breakfast Club Redcliffe has been feeding people, offering support, dignity, and survival – no fanfare, no funding, just volunteers showing up and doing the work.

Rockin' 4 The Homeless was created to keep this critical service running, and this year it's louder and prouder than ever thanks to a band that knows what community really means. Every cent raised on the day goes straight to The Breakfast Club – no overheads, no admin skimming, just food, hygiene packs, warm gear and crisis support for the people who need it most.

No ego. No middlemen. Just rock & roll for a bloody good cause. Six hours. One town. One almighty love job. "After 21 years of frontline work, The Breakfast Club finally has a permanent home – a hub that brings together vital services under one roof," Dan says. "This isn't just a building. It's safety. It's support. It's dignity.

"For people experiencing homelessness in our region, it's a lifeline. For the volunteers who've carried this cause for decades, long before any headlines, and for the community, it's proof that when we rally together, we make big things happen."

Rockin' 4 The Homeless will also host their renowned guitar auction, with a host of famous bands donating axes for the cause. "This year, we have Alice Cooper, You Am I, Ian Moss, The Offspring, Xavier Rudd and many more [donating guitars]," Dan says.

"There are a few surprises that'll be announced closer to the event, but I can promise this: these guitars are collector-worthy, they're authentic, and they carry a story. Every dollar raised from the auction goes straight to The Breakfast Club. So if you've ever wanted to own a piece of music history and support a cause that counts – this is your chance."

Dan says the decision to make the event free was because "no one should be priced out of showing up for something that matters".

"This year, we wanted to remove every barrier," he says. "Free entry means anyone can come – no excuses. We're inviting the whole community to be part of something bigger. Yes, we still need people to dig deep through auctions and donations – but we also want people to feel welcome, whether they have $1 or $100. R4TH has always been about inclusion. This just takes it one step further."
