Yewth Present Their Out Of Office Party At Umbrella: Winter City Sounds

Most company office parties will either be one of two things; extraordinarily dull or, in the rare cases, a surprisingly good time.

Though there won’t be any party poopers in sight when creative Adelaide publication Yewth host their own office party in conjunction with Umbrella: Winter City Sounds this week.

Christening their brand-new office space, Yewth will be showcasing a bunch of local house and techno artists. “This will be the first time we’re using our soon-to-be-opened office space as an event venue and we’re really excited to see how the space works and take something that’s usually a pretty bland and boring office space, completely recreate it and make it super visual,” says Yewth event coordinator Courtney Duka.

And a visual spectacle it will be, with art installations by Yewth’s Creative Director Dave Court – who recently installed some epic artwork at Groovin The Moo and Laneway festivals – and the street behind the office lighting up in every direction.

“We’re going to activate Bray Street, so it’s the entrance to the office. You’ll have to go through this little back alley, where we’re going to have live painting and people doing all sorts of things, before you even enter where the DJs will be. We’ll have music in the laneway too, so it’s going to be a pretty interactive space.”

The event is not only intended to get Adelaideans interacting with the arts, but will provide a far more accessible venue and time for an audience to enjoy dance music. “We’ve got all locals on the line-up… and a lot of them [typically] play late-night club venues, so we’re pretty excited to try and get some of the after-work crowd in to see some cool techno and house DJs. That doesn’t happen super often,” Courtney explains.

“People make excuses and this will give them a reason not to. It’s easily accessible, at a decent time, so there’s no reason to not come see some of the really awesome local techno and house music that’s bubbling away here in Adelaide.”

Post-office party, Courtney says Yewth hope to continue to use the space into the future as a creative-arts hub. “We definitely want to be doing more shows and different events in that space.

"We’re going to use the walls in the main room, where you walk in, as exhibition space. So, despite it being a fully-functioning office five days a week, we want it to be somewhere people can come and see art regularly and then tie-in live music events as well.”

Yewth’s Out Of Office event takes place at Bray Street Laneway (Adelaide) 20 July from 6pm.
