Women In Voice is a long-running Brisbane event to showcase talented female vocalists and will be returning to QPAC this June.

Women in Voice (WiV) is the finale performance of the Women Of The World (WOW) Festival (19-21 June), which is one of the world's biggest celebrations of women. WOW is coming to Brisbane for the first time in 2015.

WiV will feature familiar faces including Alison St Ledger, Carita Farrer Spencer, Leah Cotterell and Megan Sarmardin. Annie Peterson, the woman who started it all, will be emceeing the night that celebrates the achievements of women across all walks of life.

WiV will welcome back Megan Sarmardin, who'll be performing songs from her much loved 'Little Birung' song cycle as well as some all-time favourites. “I'm going to do a range of songs. Songs I performed in the last production, one that I wrote, called 'Little Birung'. I'm also going to do Cold Chisel's 'Flame Trees', Tina Turner's 'Mountain High' and also a song called 'All Jacked Up' by Gretchen Wilson,” Megan says.

Megan performed at the last WiV show in 2006 and has been very busy between now and then. “I finished my uni degree and I'm working on my post-grad degree. I finished 'Little Birung'; I toured that. Just been doing a bit of local gigging around my home town in Mt Isa. I did a stint with the Black Armed Band and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for a production down there as well. So I've been a bit busy.”

By performing in WiV this year, Megan hopes to get back into the Brisbane music circle. “I think it's to hopefully reintroduce myself to Brisbane audiences again. I was pretty young when I first sung for WiV and pretty green. So getting down here and getting to have a good sing again will be good.”

WiV will give Megan the chance to be in the spotlight and sing songs she holds close to her heart. “I think there are some really red-hot female musicians and female singers. I think they need to be showcased as much as they possibly can, particularly indigenous singers as well. I think that's my personal connection with that.

“I'm just really excited. I can't wait to have a really good, big sing with a red-hot band behind me.”

Women In Voice shows at QPAC's Concert Hall 21 June.
