Last year saw the return of psych-rock band Wolf & Cub after an absence of seven years.
They heralded their comeback with 'Blue State', a brutal, hardcore, chugging, head-thrashing slice of rock that caught the attention of discerning alternative heads. It was quickly followed by Wolf & Cub's fourth album 'NIL' in November, released on frontman Joel Byrne's own label Part Time Records (and featuring the group's new drummer, Jonathan Boulet).
But at the time, with the ongoing uncertainty of border closures, the Adelaide band were not able to tour the album.
"Releasing our fourth album last November in the middle of a global pandemic meant that for obvious reasons we weren't able to play any launch shows, which for us was like having our wings clipped," Joel says.
"'NIL' was recorded so we could play it live, so not being able to tour it has kind of made the release feel a little. . . incomplete. As you can imagine, we're beyond excited to finally be bringing it to life on stage."
Wolf & Cub kickstart the tour in Willunga (just south of Adelaide), before they play a special home-town show that will incorporate an immersive art show. They then head east for headline gigs in Sydney, Melbourne (x2 shows), and Geelong.
"My measurement for Wolf & Cub's success in my late-30s is significantly different from what it was at the beginning of our career," adds Byrne. "There's no burden of expectation here."
Tickets to all shows are on sale now.
