Music lovers of Victoria looking for an excuse to escape for a weekend getaway this winter, welcome to the Winter Sounds music series (16-18 July).
From the same team who deliver the award-winning Riverboats Music Festival in Echuca, Winter Sounds will descend on Daylesford and the surrounding region for five unique concert experiences across three days. Winter Sounds will kick off with soul-R&B queen Emma Donovan & The Putbacks and roots singer-songwriter Fenn Wilson at the Daylesford Uniting Church.
Other acts who'll trek to Daylesford include blues-roots troubadour C.W. Stoneking, punk-blues, folk-rock band Cash Savage & The Last Drinks and folk singer-songwriter Freya Josephine Hollick.
Each concert will be staged in old churches and Gold Rush-era halls, offering audiences the chance to be transported to a different time.
"Winter Sounds will bring some of Australia's best-loved performers to Daylesford and surrounding hills while drawing attention to some of the region's most beautiful and sometimes forgotten heritage buildings," Director David Frazer says.
"With this unique combination of talent and atmosphere, we're hoping to deliver a really special set of experiences for our audiences."
One of those unique experiences will feature a beautifully restored 1950s train, chartered by Frazer that will transport punters from central Daylesford to the Bullarto Village Hall for Cash Savage's matinee performance.
The scenic 30-minute trip will wind through parts of the Wombat State Forest and surrounding countryside to deliver punters to the venue (and back) in style.
Audiences can choose to purchase tickets for one or all of the five performances, while enjoying local wine and food in dedicated pop-up bars at each of the venues. More information.
