A melodic-hardcore band from Brisbane, Wildheart have been on the scene since 2015. This year will mark their first appearance at BIGSOUND.
They describe themselves as ‘five mates who just like to make music’ and push their music to its limits. After releasing the title-track single from their forthcoming EP ‘We Are’ last month, Wildheart are stoked to be able to play at BIGSOUND.
“It’s pretty exciting, we didn’t think we'd end up getting accepted onto the bill. We’re excited to get out there and put our music out in front of the music industry,” bass player/ vocalist, Kerry Rowe says.
BIGSOUND is well-known for helping to discover the future of Australian music, and Wildheart are hoping to be the next big thing. “It’s a really big environment and I’m excited to go out and have some fun”, Kerry says.
“It’s exciting to see [Fortitude] Valley so alive. BIGSOUND makes [it] something different, the streets are littered with people with their lanyards on.”
When it comes to touring and playing gigs, Kerry says the band loves doing it, but they also love pushing the boundaries with their videos. “Everything that we do in the videos, we try and think further than just that one step,” Kerry says.
“They’re an insight into our music and they’re representative of that. We want all of the video content to be reflective and show a bit of an insight into the band. We have some incredibly creative friends who have been able to help us with them. But busting you arse with your friends around it’s not really work, it’s just another day in paradise.”
With Axel Best on vocals, Adam Finlay on guitar, Andrew Edward on drums and Jaya Joseph on guitar, Kerry puts Wildheart's success so far down to their friendship and the fact they put their heart and soul into their art.
“When it comes to the nitty gritty of things we like to speak about, our music, we’re all kind of cut from the same cloth,” he says.
“For us, music is an escape; it’s an opportunity to express ourselves, and just hangout. Writing music that’s authentic, that’s real, working your f...ing arse off and then putting our music in front of as many people as we can, that’s what we do.”
With their new EP coming out at the end of the month, 'We Are' is a five-track release. “It’s been quite a while since we have released a record, we’ve put out a few singles along the way but 'We Are' has been really well received by everyone so far” Kerry says.
Kerry goes on to say the writing of the EP has been a collaboration between them all. “Adam writes a lot of the instrumentals for the songs, Axel and I sort of work in tandem for the lyrics, but we all have an input.”
The future is looking very bright for Wildheart with Kerry saying they’ve already started writing tracks for a new EP or possibly an album. “We’re hoping to get on the road again, ideally another east coast run and from there just get out and play our songs to as many people as we can.”
