Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have released a video for their cover of The Saints' 'Just Like Fire Would'.
Appropriately enough, The Boss first unveiled his cover of the Brisbane band's classic track during a show at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre last year. He was joined by Tom Morello for that tour (and for an eventual recording session in Sydney); Morello also features heavily in the new video.
"He became a filter that I ran my music through," Springsteen recently told Rolling Stone. "He would send the songs back to me with a very current slant on them... He jolted those songs into the now. He's one of the very few guitarists that creates a world by himself. It's like the Edge or Pete Townshend or Johnny Marr. The E Street Band is a big house, but when Tom is onstage he builds another room."
While most Brisbanites would probably pick '(I'm) Stranded' as the quintessential Saints track, 'Just Like Fire Would' — recorded in Wales in 1986, years after Ed Kuepper left the band — was their commercial breakthrough in the US after it scored MTV airplay.
