Last week, ARIA Award-winning artist Megan Washington landed a big pay day, after settling her longstanding dispute with Qantas.
Washington claimed that Qantas misused a video of her performing the song 'I Still Call Australia Home' at a corporate event last year. She sang the song at Qantas' 90th anniversary celebration, and the airline went on to use it for in-flight entertainment presentations.
Claiming that their use of the video was unauthorised and affecting her reputation, Washington took legal action last year against the airline, suing them for $500,000. The case came before the Federal Circuit Court, but was settled confidentially.
Washington has emerged from the settlement with what the court described as a 'significant sum', although the exact figure remains unknown.
