L-R top to bottom: Winston Surfshirt, DMA'S, Curtis Harding, Ziggy Alberts
A new addition to the music festival calendar, the New South Wales Sapphire Coast will host the inaugural Wanderer Festival in late September for a three-day explosion of live music and art.
Featuring an almost all-Australian line-up (except scorching US soul singer Curtis Harding – in his only Australian appearance – and indie legends The Dandy Warhols), folky balladeer Ziggy Alberts will be joined by indie rock lords DMA'S, country-rock masters The Teskey Brothers, and funksters Winston Surfshirt.
Other notable additions include Sarah Blasko, Jack River, DZ Deathrays, Isabella Manfredi, Confidence Man, Josh Pyke, Emma Donovan & The Putbacks, Pierce Brothers and Didirri. Scroll down for the complete line-up.
Not only a celebration of live music, Wanderer Festival also boasts a massive arts and culture programme with an ethos based on sustainability, community and creativity.
"It's about tearing down the barriers of the last few years and facilitating human connection and togetherness," festival producer and Wanderer programmer Simon Daly (whose being involved with Falls Festival and The Lost Lands) says.
"We are thrilled to have secured this line-up of extraordinary artists for our inaugural festival and feel very privileged to be part of an incredibly welcoming and creative community, in such a unique setting."
To take place in the emerald hinterland of Merimbula and Pambula's fabled beaches – Bournda – Wanderer Festival is located halfway between Sydney and Melbourne, and only a three-hour drive from Canberra.
Highlights of the arts programme, which covers theatre, comedy, and circus as well as cultural and community workshops, include glam circus ensemble Circus Trick Tease and their show 'Werk It' and Geraldine Hickey who crowns the comedy line-up.
"We are really excited about the breadth of the programme," arts programme curator Ian Pidd says.
"People will come with a must-see list, but will undoubtedly leave with a new favourite act they'd previously never heard of.
"This is the unique power of live performance. It's also been a privilege to work with the incredibly rich creative community of the Sapphire Coast, who play a significant part in the overall programme."
Wanderer Festival takes place in Bournda (NSW) 23-25 September.
