Girls Rock! WA 2020 Camp
Mid-January will see WAM takeover the Leederville TAFE Music Industry Skills Department to present the third instalment of the Girls Rock! WA camps.This year will feature a range of speciality workshops including zine making, learning to coordinate a live music event and a behind-the-scenes tour of RTRFM.
The programme tackles the issue of gender imbalance in the music industry with a focus on the key areas of creativity, positivity, community and empowerment. Head to @girlsrockwa on Instagram/ Facebook to keep up with all the latest news.
Demos From Peel
Following projects in the Wheatbelt and Kimberley, the next 'Demos From' regional recording project and compilation will showcase artists from the Peel region.From Fairbridge Festival to John Butler, there’s no denying the strong contribution the Peel region has made to Western Australia’s contemporary music scene.
Ten Peel artists will be selected to record an original song with some of WA’s best producers including Matt Gio and Dan Carroll of Rada Studios, for a final compilation that will be released in 2020 on CD and digital streaming platforms. We’re on the lookout for Peel songwriters, acts and bands of any level, age and genre to register their interest before 31 January.
Songs Of The Year Workshops
WAM will roll out a series of free composition workshops over the next two months in conjunction with Perth-based music label Tone List, to provide opportunities for participants to engage with exploratory music in a relaxed and informal environment. Curated by label co-founder and local musician Josten Myburgh, the workshops will feature a host of visiting and local artists who work in the areas of sound design, improvisation and experimental music.
These workshops also aim to encourage new entires into the annual Song Of The Year competition, which promotes the talented, original songwriting of WA artists that embraces contemporary music of all genres and ages.

Who Run The World Remixed
Who Run The World is back in 2020 and again we’re partnering with Perth Festival to address gender inequality in music – but this time with a twist.Young female and non-binary identifying musicians, producers and DJs aged 15 to 20 will join local musicians, performers and producers for a series of masterclasses, discussions and performances. From creativity with loop pedals to preparing a studio for production, releasing your music to personal stories from musicians, this is an opportunity to get the low down from those who paved the way.
