WAM's World West Australian Music News September 2021

WAM Song Of The Year returns to Freo.Social on 22 September.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A brief glimpse at the goings-on in the WA music industry, rounded up by WAM aka West Australian Music.

OUR SOUNDTRACK OUR STORIES

WAM is proud to back West Australian artists through our partnership with Our Soundtrack Our Stories.

The initiative, which launched one week after Jack River's viral call-to-arms, is an open invitation from our country's music community to the rest of Australia to discover, champion, share, and consume more local music.

We want to hear more West Aussie tunes in our supermarkets, restaurants and in our media!

The effects of the COVID-19 crisis are still damaging the music industry today with over $64 million in revenue lost since 1 July, 2021, among just 2,000 respondents to the I Lost My Gig survey. It is more vital than ever that we are supporting our homegrown heroes.

Head to the ARIA website to check out the many ways you can get involved with the movement and keep an eye on our social media accounts as we'll be sharing activities you can engage with and what we're doing to support the Our Soundtrack Our Stories message.

WAM SAFETY IN MUSIC

WAM strongly believes that anyone working within, or interacting with, any aspect of the music sector should feel safe and secure.

To support the industry in this area we are delivering a series of Safety in Music initiatives and resources.

These include a series of forums and Safety in Music workshops, the formulation of a focus group to improve the WAMAwards nomination and judging process in relation to people who identify as BIPOC, ongoing gender equity activities, regular Women's Music Network meetings, the establishment of a key resources page and more.
