WAM's World: West Australian Music News October 2018

ASKYA is part of WAMFest's regional concert series.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A brief glimpse at the goings-on in the WA music industry, rounded up by WAM aka West Australian Music.

WAMFest Live Regional Showcases Kicks Off

WAMFest Live will once again go beyond our city and towards some amazing regional venues from 18-20 October. This year we’re excited to take the festival to Margaret River, Mandurah and Albany for a series of FREE events.

Punters can rely on a stand-up local line-up at each event, including acts such as Blue Child Collective, ASKYA, Emjay Angeni, Asparagus Soop, MATA, The Skrew, Kris Nelson and plenty more.

WAMFest Live Lands In North Perth

As a part of WAMFest presented by Act-Belong-Commit, we are delighted to unveil our new North Perth event in partnership with the City of Vincent, which will kick off from 3-8pm on Sunday 28 October.

The event will be centred around the Rosemount Hotel with many local acts including Superego, Grievous Bodily Calm, Carla Geneve, Jamilla and heaps more taking over the Rosemount Hotel, Four5Nine Bar, and spilling out into the carpark.

The North Perth Town Hall will also be hosting an all-ages event on the day featuring artists such as Flossy, Young Robin and more. And in the Milkd alleyway there will be a silent disco for the little kids – keeping people of all ages in on the music madness.

Get Ready For WA Music's Night Of Nights

The WAMAwards are back again this year (1 November) and better than ever. This year we will be debuting at the event’s new home, The Hyatt Regency Perth.

Alongside revealing all the award winners, the night will also welcome two new Hall of Famers in Dixie Battersby and The Stems. If that’s not enough, there’ll also be stacks of performances from some of the best local WA bands and soloists including The Stems, Gina Williams & Guy Ghouse, Carla Geneve and more.

WAM Reveals Songwriting Workshops

In conjunction with Healthway promoting the Act-Belong-Commit message, WAM are rolling out a series of free songwriting workshops for aspiring artists to explore their creativity and learn the process of writing songs.

The first workshop is on Saturday 24 November, followed by Saturday 19 January and Saturday 9 February. These workshops will be led by local Perth artist Riley Pearce, who in his young career has been recognised numerous times in WAM’s Song of the Year awards. To register your interest, click here.
