Having boosted the careers of Methyl Ethel, Tired Lion, KUČKA, Beni Bjah and more in recent years, cast eyes (and ears!) on WA’s next crop of songwriting stars at the WAM Song Of The Year Awards Party. One of Australia’s biggest song comps, the winners will be revealed on 17 May at the WA Maritime Museum (Perth). Tetsuo is N’bridge’s latest offering, the ‘90s Japanese grunge-inspired late-night venue taking over from Ginger at the top of William St. Among the changes, they’ve upgraded to two rooms, one of which is doing a mighty-fine job of showcasing live acts. They’re now taking bookings.WHEATBELT WONDERS

GREAT SOUTHERN GREATNESS
WAM’s ‘Sounds Of’ series has exposed the incredible depth of talent found in regional WA and the next in the series, Sounds Of The Great Southern, launches at Albany Town Hall 27 May. The ten-track compilation CD features The Tidswell Twins, Willow, 40 Kays Out, Ron Coyne, Rastatrix, Blue Stuka, Carla Geneve, Mary Jayne & The Smoke Detectors, Kris Nelson and Isla Imogen, all of who play live at the launch.WAMORE…
• The beloved Rosemount Hotel has renovated their main room and it looks (and sounds!) spectacular. Get in there.• Perth-born Gemma Pike is now the Assistant Music Director at triple j, which can only be a good thing for WA artists.
• If you’re a member and would like to help shape the future of WA music, WAM’s AGM is being held at Universal Bar (Northbridge) 24 May, 5.30-7pm.
• With a stack of WA artists previously impressing at Music Matters Live, applications close 27 May to showcase at Singapore’s cross between WAMFest and BIGSOUND.
• AMP’s Tomorrow Fund is offering $1 million in grants to Australians doing great things, including musicians. Applications close 16 May.
