Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A brief glimpse at the goings-on in the WA music industry, rounded up by WAM aka West Australian Music.

WAM WELCOMES NEW CEO

WAM is over the moon to welcome former Sydney Opera House CFO, Natasha Collier, as our new Chief Executive Officer. Ms Collier, an accomplished, connected and proactive arts professional has spent the majority of her 28-year-long professional career working in executive roles in Australia's arts and entertainment sector.

WAM President Al Taylor said: "Natasha joins WAM during an exciting time of growth and revitalisation and we are very excited to enter a new era of success and achievement under her leadership."

Commenting on her appointment, Ms Collier said: "WA has always punched above its weight in terms of its home-grown contemporary music talent.

"I'm privileged and thrilled to be joining WA's peak music body and to champion the State's incredible array of talented artists and industry players."

WIDE OPEN ROAD S2 STREAMING NOW

Following the success of season 1 released in October 2020, we're excited to unveil season 2 of the West Australian Music podcast,' Wide Open Road' – a celebration of the richness and diversity of WA's music community, from journalists and music managers through to musicians, photographers and music historians.

Through the stories of these people, it explores the landscape of WA's contemporary music across the decades from the suburban pop, rock and blues of the '60s and '70s through to the wide-reaching, genre-blending artists of today.

Hosted by WA musician, RTRFM presenter and WAM Audience Development Officer Em Burrows, season 2 continues to delve into the untold stories of some of WA's music icons, including episodes with special guests Martyn P Casey, Claire Pannell and James Baker. All episodes available to stream.

WAM SONG OF THE YEAR AWARDS PARTY MOVED TO SEPTEMBER

In light of the COVID-19 restrictions introduced to the Perth and Peel regions on Sunday 27 June, WAM had to make the difficult decision to postpone the 2021 Song Of The Year Awards party set to take place at Fremantle venue, Freo.Social, on Wednesday 30 June.

While disappointing for those involved with the event, the health and safety of attendees will always be paramount. Accordingly, the event has been moved to Wednesday 22 September at Freo.Social to allow all nominees, supporters and members of the WA community to attend and celebrate with the winners.
