WAM's World West Australian Music News August 2017

Abbe May will be one of the many WA artists headed to Brisbane to showcase at BIGSOUND 2017
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A brief glimpse at the goings-on in the WA music industry, rounded up by WAM aka West Australian Music.

WAMCON

Running adjacent to WAMFest, WA’s premier music industry opportunity WAMCon (3-4 November) makes its first revelations very shortly. Apart from the incredible line-up, early-bird tickets will include free access to all events, guaranteed one-on-one networking opportunities, priority radio listening sessions, free lunch and tunes with Salad Days and your boarding pass to the now infamous QuayNote Boat Party. Best hurry as previous two years, early-birds sold-out.

BIG WA SOUNDS

If you’re headed to Australia’s biggest industry music gathering, BIGSOUND, this September then be sure to support some of the massive WA artist contingency headed over. Or at least wish the following the very best of luck in slaying it over there: Abbe May, Boat Show, Dream Rimmy, Feels, Mama Kin, Peter Bibby, POW! Negro, Scalphunter, Stella Donnelly, Tempest Rising, Teischa and Ziggy Ramo. May you impress the pants off the worldwide music industry.

GENDER GOALS

With gender imbalances in the music industry being a hot topic recently, it’s great to see APRA AMCOS leading the way, announcing a goal of achieving a 25 per cent increase in female members YOY over three years, and strict 40 per cent female participation measures. WAM has also created a Gender Equity Council, working on ways to address similar issues of low female representation in the music industry and more.

BELL’S RINGING

As an artist manger, Simon Napier-Bell has worked with The Yardbirds (feat Jimmy Page), Dusty Springfield, Ultravox, Marc Bolan and T-Rex, Japan, Asia, Candi Staton, Boney M, Sinéad O’Connor and most famously discovered George Michael and Wham. Catch him revealing insights to Harvey Rae at Mojo’s on Tuesday 12 September.
