A brief glimpse at the goings-on in the WA music industry, rounded up by WAM.
WAMFESTY GOODNESS
With last year’s rebranded festival winning the National Live Music Award for Australian Live Music Event Of The Year (Metro), WAMFest is the biggest celebration of WA music and has been announced as spanning across four days 2-5 November, 2017.WAM’s currently seeking applications from acts (artists, bands, producers, MCs etc, and all genres), Kiss My WAMi CD song submissions, promoters, venues and more to take advantage of the incredible opportunities to advance your career that WAMFest 2017 will provide. Applications close Thursday 20 July.
TAXING TIMES
Rather than avoiding tax time, it’s time for music artists to rock the returns. Potential tax deductions for those earning income from music industry roles include reference materials (CDs, DVDs, concert tickets, Foxtel – it’s all research!), rent and utility costs (at least part of), stage specific costuming (finally a possible excuse for that latex outfit), meals and incidental costs (transport, showcase fees etc.) while touring and professional association fees (like your WAM membership). We recommend you seek professional assistance as it can get tricky, remembering that accountant fees are also deductible.
