Netherlands-born LA-via-Australia based Iraqi-Syrian troubadour Wafia is returning to Australian stages with a run of intimate headline shows this November.
The ‘Sad Sh.t’ tour will kick off in Sydney before heading Melbourne and Brisbane – Aussie fans will be treated of course to performances of Wafia’s much-loved classics, as well as the first live performances of new tracks like ‘Background’, ‘House Down’, ‘Crystal Ball’, and most recently ‘Sad Sh.t’.
“I’m so excited to be coming back home to play these new songs for the first time alongside all the classics,” Wafia says of her return. “It's been a long time coming and I'm so excited to be dipping my toes back in these intimate spaces.”
It’s a new chapter for the singer-songwriter, which sees her embracing fresh influences and bold storytelling, exploring vulnerability and hope through deeply personal – yet universally relatable – storytelling. Within the pop music realm, Wafia is distinguished by her understanding of the human experience as well as her unique identity as both Arab and queer.
Things began to pick up for Wafia in 2015, thanks to a cover of Mario’s ‘Let Me Love You’, which amassed an impressive five million SoundCloud streams. Then, her track ‘Heartburn’ caught the attention of Pharrell Williams, who played the track on his Beats1 radio show.
Wafia’s 2020 ‘Good Things’ EP was received well by critics and fans – as the perfect soundtrack for a tumultuous time.
Tickets are on sale now.
