Fresh off the release of their latest single 'Twin', Brisbane punk-rockers VOIID are bringing the noise to Halloween Hysteria followed by Shakafest.
So far in 2018, the four-piece band have released three singles. Since their formation in late 2015 the band have toured Australia multiple times. Having supported the likes of Skegss, Grinspoon and Gooch Palms, VOIID will be heading to Shakafest for the second consecutive year.
VOIID's drummer Jasmine Cannon says the band weren't expecting to attend in 2018. “We actually didn't expect to play [Shakafest] again this year. They asked us again and we got a way better slot this time, so we were very keen to play.
“We're playing with a bunch of friends so it was a no-brainer that we would have accepted. Shakafest is always a really good time, so we were like f... yeah!”
Jasmine explains the band is looking forward to the venue change this year, from the Shark Bar to the Broadwater Parklands, along with the welcoming environment the festival fosters.
“Shark Bar is obviously one of our favourite venues – we pretty much live there. [But] it's cool that [the festival has] moved to a bigger venue. That probably means more activities to get involved in which is cool.
“Everyone [at Shakafest] is always so much fun and it's a cool place to meet new people and meet bands that we really like. With the line-up last year we got to meet WAAX. We've obviously always looked up to them, so that was really cool. It's a good way to get ourselves out there and play more festivals.”
Jasmine says fans can expect to hear a much tighter show from VOIID. “We will be a lot tighter this time. Last year [was] one of our first, big festivals.
“This year we are a bit more prepared which is cool. Last year we were a little bit nervous. I think we have come into our own this year so [fans] can expect to see a way better performance than last year. We've got 'Silly Girl', 'Not For You' and 'Twin' – that's our three singles we will definitely be playing.
“I think ['Twin'] is something everyone is kind of waiting for. We've had it in pretty much every single show we've played since the release. [We're] just giving the people what they want.”
Before heading off to Shakafest in November, VOIID will also play the inaugural Halloween Hysteria in late October.
“[We've] wanted to play harder festivals – heavy-based events. We've always wanted to be involved in more stuff like that, so this is the best opportunity for us to start getting that ball rolling and hopefully it will lead to more opportunities.
“We've be practising heaps, just trying to get everything super tight because we know this one is going to be a big one, so we will definitely be putting on a better show.”
VOIID play Halloween Hysteria at Jubilee Hotel (Brisbane) 27 October and Shakafest at Broadwater Parklands (Gold Coast) 24 November.
