Mainstays of the punk, DIY underground since 2015, VOIID are nearing the release of their debut record, 'Watering Dead Flowers' (out 28 April).
As their sound morphs into alt-rock and post-punk territory, 'Watering Dead Flowers' finds the quartet of Anji Greenwood (lead vocalist), Mina Cannon (drums), Antonia Hickey (bass, vocals) and Kate Mcguire (guitar, vocals) sourcing songs from their own diaristic material as they 'explore the defining relationships and emotions of young adulthood'.After teasing the album with singles 'Lexapro' and 'And So Two', the next cut from 'Watering Dead Flowers' is 'Free Kitten'.
"'Free Kitten' is about the confusion that comes with yearning for someone that can't love you the way you deserve, and learning to be comfortable with that," VOIID says.
"It's ultimately letting go, and finding a way to exist within yourself and have that be enough."
Recorded in 2021 by Matt Cochran (Talk Heavy, WALKEN) at Birthday Boy Studios, the sound captured on 'Watering Dead Flowers' finds VOIID in their natural habitat.
"I didn't want it to be too overproduced," Kate says. "This is what we sound like when we jam. The raw guitars, nothing flashy – it feels good."
Now VOIID are gearing up for a national tour in June. "Ohhhhhhh my god, we are so excited to finally announce the 'Watering Dead Flowers' tour BABY!
"Joining us is the one and only Blindgirls plus heaps more incredible acts. We truly can not wait for this one. Hope to see y'all there."
