Vixens Of Fall Showcase Their Boho-Country-Rock At BIGSOUND

Vixens Of Fall
Anna Rose loves hard rock and heavy metal, but particularly enjoys writing about and advocates for Aboriginal artists. She enjoys an ice-cold Diet Coke and is allergic to the word 'fabulous’.

In recent years, BIGSOUND has introduced more and more country artists – an opportunity for many musicians of the genre to be catapulted into bigger and better things.

Such an opportunity is one that Vixens Of Fall, comprised of sisters Nina, Wren, and Lulu, are also hoping for. "Firstly, we're so honoured we get to be a part of BIGSOUND," Nina says, "we know how iconic it is. Just seeing a lot of our friends over the past couple of years being able to have this kind of opportunity – because we know BIGSOUND is a big stepping stone for artists – but I feel like it's a bit hard for country artists.

"We are in a niche genre in Australia, but it's garnering a lot of attention, and getting bigger and better every single day. So, for us to have this opportunity to show everyone our kind of country, we're so excited, and so honoured to get this moment to have the BIGSOUND experience."

However, just because it's BIGSOUND Vixens Of Fall won't be presenting themselves as anything other than their usual selves.

"At the end of the day, my sisters and I are different, and I think that's what makes us very special. I think in comparison to a lot of our fellow country artists, we do have a little bit of a different vibe, a bit edgier. In a really weird sense, we're choosy, we're mystical, we're loud, we're just us! Why would you want to be anybody else?"

The outfit had the most wonderful introduction to music, undoubtedly a family affair. Nina explains, after bribing their parents with coffee, Vixens Of Fall would sit on their parents' bed each morning, then play songs with their dad on guitar before heading off to school.

"He had three display folders full of all kinds of songs, and we'd pick out our favourites," she recalls. "He'd sing some and we were his do-wop girls! Particularly 'Mustang Sally', we'd go to town singing that one! We always had a really fun time, and it's such a lovely memory."

Now, after such an early exposure to all styles of music, Vixens Of Fall certainly standout – with matching septum and nose piercings, bold and beautiful clothing, big hair, and wide, eyeliner-heavy eyes, you'd be forgiven for mistaking the group as having rock & roll inclinations. But on hearing their music, it's unmistakeable that this is country.

"It's hard to put us in a box," Nina says, "but when it comes to our kind of country, we coined the term boho-country-rock. It's a bit witchy, bit western, bit country, bit bluesy, bit rocky – it's just a whole bunch of sh.t piled together because we have such eclectic taste.

"When we make our music, we just love elements of everything. We love a sexy guitar solo, or a banjo solo, or we need to have a fiddle. We can't make up our minds, so here we are!"

Vixens Of Fall showcase at BIGSOUND at The Zoo 5 September (7.15pm) & 7 September (11pm).
