Vieux Farka Touré 2023 Australia Tour

Vieux Farka Touré tours Australia February-March 2023.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

The man and legend from Mali, Vieux Farka Touré, otherwise known as The Hendrix of the Sahara thanks to his masterful guitar work, returns to Australia next year.

Touré will perform from his extraordinary back catalogue as well as his new album, 'Les Racines' that celebrates the popular adage 'to know where you are going, you must know where you've come from'.

"I've had a desire to do more than a traditional album for a long, long time. It's important to me and to Malian people that we stay connected to our roots and our history," Touré says.

Les racines translates to 'the roots' and it symbolises the deep connection with the traditional Songhai music of Northern Mali and what the West call the desert blues.

Touré has deeper roots than most as his father, the late Ali Farka Touré, was a pioneer in introducing this style to international audiences and is still hailed as the finest guitarist Africa has ever produced.

Vieux recently collaborated with Khruangbin, the renowned Texas trio, on their album 'Ali' to give his fans an experience unlike any other as he spreads his energetic and gorgeous evolution of Malian blues.

Tickets are on sale.
