Australian musician Mike Noga has died. He was 42.

Mike's family posted the news to Facebook yesterday. "We are absolutely devastated to inform you of the passing of our beloved brother, son, uncle and dearest friend Mike.

"We know how much he and his music meant to so many of you and there's nothing we can say to make this hurt any less. We miss you and love you so much, Mike."

Noga was a member of The Drones for a decade (2004-2014), playing on the records 'Gala Mill', 'Havilah' and 'I See Seaweed'. He left the band to purse his own solo career.

Mike released three albums as a solo artist: 'Folk Songs' (2006), 'The Balladeer Hunter' (2011) and 'King' (2016).

In a 2018 interview with scenestr, he mentioned he was working on a follow-uo to 'King'. "'King' to me was a really bombastic rock & roll album for the most part, and sounded pretty masculine to me," he said.

"It focuses a lot on the male character, Jack. So what I've been doing is almost writing. . . like a prequel to 'King', and most of these songs are seen through the character of Mary's eyes, so it's a bit softer this album; there will be a bunch of duets with female singers on there.

"It's almost like seeing the events of what happens in 'King' through Mary's eyes instead, and the lead-up to those events."

Just a month ago, Mike had signed with Part Time Records and was expecting to release new material from a record produced by Alan Sparhawk of Low.
