Adelaidians... it's time to take back the city's streets, tramlines and left-of-centre spaces as well as venues not usually associated with live music as Music SA and the Music Development Office unveil the inaugural Umbrella: Winter City Sounds programme.
Umbrella will immerse itself across Adelaide from 15 July to 7 August, and will include more than 200 live performances in over 60 venues, bringing the city alive over the winter period.

"Be pleasantly surprised when you stumble upon our talented local musicians on the way to the footy,” says Lisa Bishop, Music SA's General Manager, “while out shopping, during a visit to the zoo, a tram trip or while drinking mulled wine at your favourite city hotel."
The three-week celebration will include the SA Music Hall Of Fame and The AMC Sessions at The Jade in the CBD, and Shopfront's Adelaide Zoo Matinees (three Sunday sessions to hang with your favourite zoo animals).
Golden Era Records will host their mini block party The Warm Up that will be hosted by Tom Thum and feature DJ Sizzle, Plutonic Lab, K21, Vents and DJ Debris.

Root Down will close down Hyde St and feature a slew of the country's rising hip hop stars, including Sampa The Great, Oisima, Abbey Howlett and Argus & The Liar as well as interactive workshops.
While Electro Live will take over Cinema Place Laneway turning the East End precinct into a lounge room complete with couches, rugs, lamps and heaters. If you're catching a tram during Umbrella, don't be startled if Jesse Davidson, Ollie English or any number of local musicians serenade you during The Tram Sessions.

For those seeking more thrills, then we introduce you to Hypothermia, a festival dedicated to Scandinavian metal that will be held at Z Ward Old Glenside Hospital. Yes, the mental institution that housed many of the States violent and criminally insane patients until its closure in 1973.
"I love live music, and my Government is practically supporting the sector through – among other things – our Music Development Office and efforts to loosen restrictions on what kinds of acts can perform in licensed premises." - Premier Jay Weatherill
The sounds of live music will reverberate around the Rundle St Mall with Rundle Sounds taking over throughout Umbrella. “The idea is to draw people to live music and allow them to engage with it in a way they never have before,” says Sian Walden from Little Acorn Music who are co-ordinating the music of Rundle Sounds.
Wintersteady will showcase the finest pysch-rock bands the country has to offer; and Winter Jams' music-making workshops will be the perfect activity for any budding musicians during the school holidays.
Umbrella: Winter City Sounds will also incorporate a number of collaborations with the Adelaide Guitar Festival (11-14 August) as well as Guitars In Bars where over 300 musicians will appear in venues across the state.
"Umbrella is Music SA's gift to the people of Adelaide and it's your way to support musicians and venues. Buy a ticket or two and help us build live music as an important industry for SA," Lisa Bishop says.
