After being affected by South Australia's recent seven-day lockdown, Umbrella Festival resumes its 2021 programme today as well as extending the annual winter celebration of live music to mid October to cater for 80-plus events that were forced to postpone or cancel.
While 27 of the affected events have being cancelled outright, around another 60 live performances will resume with new dates currently being rescheduled – more information. The remaining 12 days of the Festival will proceed albeit with limited venue capacities.
"We are so thrilled for Umbrella to return after this week-long pause," Music SA General Manager Kim Roberts says, "but we're absolutely devastated that 80 performances were unable to proceed, especially after the year the Australian live music industry faced in 2020.
"The pause of the festival was really difficult for us to be faced with only five days into 2021 Umbrella, but the safety of our team, our venues, performers and audiences is our first priority.
"The Music SA team have been working hard on delivering Umbrella over the past 18 months, putting as many contingencies in place as possible to adhere to social distancing requirements.
"Now we're working closely with our many artists, venues and producers to ensure that as many Umbrella events as possible are rescheduled to a later date."
Umbrella Festival 2021 has been extended until 17 October.
