Tyga Gets Freaky Deaky With Australian Audiences This Summer

Tyga tours Australia December 2022.
Jade has been working as a freelance music journalist from the wilds of Far North Queensland since 2001 and loves nothing more than uncovering the human side of every stage persona. You can usually find her slinging merch with a touring band somewhere between Mackay and Cairns, or holed up with her pets in Townsville watching Haunt TV.

It's time to get 'Freaky Deaky' – US rapper Tyga will be hitting Australian shores for the first time in three years next month for his 'It's Too Loud, I Can't Hear You' tour.

Tyga's 2019 headline shows sold out, and his appearances at The Grass Is Greener festival drew massive crowds.

He released his seventh studio album, 'Legendary', in 2019. Now Tyga is gearing up to release his eighth studio album.

Five standalone singles have preceded the release, including solo efforts 'Sheikh Talk', 'Ay Caramba' and 'Lifetime' as well as collaborative track 'Sunshine' with Jhené Aiko and Pop Smoke, and 'Freaky Deaky' with Doja Cat.

The year hasn't been without controversy for the 'Chosen' and 'Taste' rapper – Tyga pulled the video for 'Ay Caramba' apologising for racial stereotypes portrayed in it.

"I'm not Mexican, so I can't say what Mexicans are offended by and not, but I had no intention of offending anybody," Tyga told Rolling Stone. "I want to apologise to the Mexican community and my fans who are Mexicans."

Tyga was also present (along with Killer Mike and Meek Mill) for the signing of a new bill in California last month, The Decriminalising Artistic Expression Act, that restricts the use of creative content – including lyrics and music videos – to be used as evidence in court against artists without judicial review in the state of California.

Last year he was unmasked on Season 6 of US version of 'The Masked Singer' as the Dalmatian.

After being eliminated for his performance of 'Beautiful' by Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams, Tyga told host Nick Cannon that Lil Wayne's appearance on season 3 of the show inspired him, with panelist Robin Thicke announcing: "We're lucky to have you on the show. Every time we have the young, hottest cats on the show it makes us look cooler."

Tyga told Apple Music 1's Zane Lowe earlier this year that his yet-untitled album was "about 80 per cent done" and that his 'Freaky' collab with Doja Cat – following their 2019 joint 'Juicy' – was the album's lead single.

"I think from where I'm trying to take it, what the new album sounds like sonically, I feel like this was the right lead single," Tyga says, "and with her, she's killing it right now."

Tyga also confirmed a collaboration with Chris Brown on the new album, adding: "I'm waiting on two features that I really, really want."

There are rumoured track listings circulating online that call the new album 'M3GAST4R' and include collaborations with The Kid Laroi, Offset (who featured on 'Taste'), Swae Lee and more, but so far nothing has been confirmed by the 'Rack City' rapper.

Tyga told Lowe music was the driving force behind everything he does, but if he was to start his career over it would be with a different mentality.

"I was 17 when I got signed to Young Money, I was young and my vision was whatever I saw Lil Wayne doing," he says.

"I really didn't know myself as an artist. I really didn't have a vision for myself, but I just wanted to do music."
