The soulful '60s, hypnotic indie pop of TV Girl will finally land in Australia this winter.
Originally part of the Splendour 2024 line-up, the San Diego natives – and 'America's favourite indie band' – will headline concerts in Melbourne and Sydney as well as a special co-headlining Brisbane performance with British art rockers The Last Dinner Party in July."Attention Australian friends (or 'mates')! We have heard your sad, pitiable cries for 'America's favourite indie band' to finally make their way to your side of the equator!
"Don't be a 'bludger', have your fingers warmed up and ready to click a link on Friday when the tickets go up (9am local time)!" You've been told, Australia. Don't be a dirty bludger!
The TV Girl story began back in 2010 when Brad Petering formed the group to record music inspired by Spector-esque girl-group pop with an emerging interest in hip hop.
Petering was joined by Jason Wyman and Wyatt Harmon, with the group's debut album 'French Exit' arriving in 2014, featuring the mega hit 'Lovers Rock' as well as 'Birds Dont Sing'.
Their second album 'Who Really Cares' followed in 2016 featuring the bangers 'Not Allowed' and 'Cigarettes Out The Window', although TV Girl's biggest hits only went viral thanks to TikTok in 2022.
The band released their latest record 'Grapes Upon The Vine' in 2023. Their most mature effort yet, the album features extensive use of gospel samples as it explores themes of commitment, God, and the afterlife; not, of course, without TV Girl's cynicism and biting wit.
The band performed the record live across America in 2023, including an acclaimed set at Coachella.
Tickets on sale from 9am (local time) on 19 April.
