The world's longest running DJ competition, DMC World DJ Championships is going ahead in 2020 moving to a virtual event that's open to all DJs.
Australian turntablists will be able to upload their own two-minute video entries from 16 September (deadline to submit is 23 September), with a Final 8 revealed on 27 September.The local, dexterous finalists will then each upload a new, four-minute set by 15 October (national finals streamed on 18 October), with the national winner announced on 25 October. The global champion will be crowned 30 November.
There'll be weekly Facebook live events, aired on the Australian DMC DJ Championships Facebook page, featuring showcases from renowned DJs, MCs, interviews, performers and prize giveaways.
The traditional competition format has also been tweaked, with any equipment now allowed paving the way to expand creativity of the competitors.
A live practice room has also been created on the global DMC DJ Champs website, now open to all DJs to upload a one-minute practice/ freestyle/ scratch video for other DJs and fans to comment and show support.
A staple of the hip hop world since its first competition in 1985, the two-time reigning DMC World DJ Champion is France's DJ Skillz (2018, 2019).
While on the local front, DJ Wallzee was crowned the 2019 Australian champion.
