Now in its second year, ‘Turn Up!’ is returning to the Sunshine Coast as music industry achievers share their secrets to success.
‘Turn Up!’ is a one-day conference featuring music industry professionals and musicians offering their insights and providing networking opportunities for music people within the Sunshine Coast region. Sunshine Coast Mayor, Mark Jamieson, and music retailing legend, business book author and motivational speaker, Barry Bull, will be opening and launching the 2015 ‘Turn Up!’ conference.
Barry also spoke at last year’s inaugural event and has been a major support of what ‘Turn Up!’ represents. “When you come to an event like this you get inspired, you meet other people and you get an idea. But what do you do with that idea? Events like this are, what I call, pathways attempting to connect. You get a pathway and your footprint is on that pathway and you get an idea. You meet somebody and you’re on the way forward."
Other event speakers include Dennis Dunstan (Front Row Management), Peter Koppes (The Church) and Jeff Chandler (Gympie Music Muster) as well as many more industry achievers. “They come from all walks of life in the entertainment industry, but like myself, with decades of experience,” Barry enthuses.
“There’s panel sessions which interrogate that knowledge of these people, so there’s a lot of experience coming out of the industry to help people who are in the industry to find their own place in the growth of the industry; and also new musicians who need to be inspired and find their niche where they can find a role in the industry.”
As well as panel sessions, ‘Turn Up!’ also includes breakout sessions and showcase performances. “It doesn’t matter if you’re a songwriter or a musician, you might have an interest in sound and engineering, in publishing, in management or in venue operation, all of these types of topics will be covered and it will be invaluable for the people who can see a career there,” Barry says.
‘Turn Up!’ recognises the Sunshine Cost is currently experiencing a major state of growth, and an event like this is the music industry's response to that growth. “This is only the second year that this event has [happened], it’s still in its very early stages of growth, but it;s certainly going to be an industry mover and shaker,” Barry says.
Although organised and run by professionals, ‘Turn Up!’ is aimed at everyone who wants to be involved in the music industry. “The whole spirit of the initiative is to provide a platform of knowledge, information, collaboration and networking for those seeking a career within the music industry or for those trying to sustain their existing career,” Barry says.
Turn Up! Sunshine Coast Music Industry Conference takes place at the Nambour Civic Centre 14 October.
