Total Giovanni are set to release their long-awaited debut album, 'Euphoria', this October that will be followed by an Aussie-wide tour.
“We wanted to put together something that stood on its own as an album,” explains the band's frontman Vachel Spirason.
After initially releasing a collection of singles such as 'When We Break', 'Can't Control My Love' and 'Human Animal', Total Giovanni began to gather momentum.
From playing a variety of festivals and their own headline shows, the group made a decision to back off gigging and commit to making an album.
“We had a bunch of jams that were about feel and they were quite incomplete, but they had this particular vibe to them. So we had a bundle of jams that we found together, which went to form the backbone of [the album]," Vachel says.
“Some of the songs are three to four years old and others only got finished a month ago, so it's a real time capsule of the last few years for us.
"Arguably, we did bite off more than we could chew only because all of our personal lives began shifting. I had a baby, then I had another one, and some of the other guys have had kids too. The time frame [to release the album] kind of blew out because other things kept happening.
“I think we are all happy with it and extremely proud of ourselves to have finally finished it. As far as what everyone else makes of it, it's hard to know. The reason it took so long is because we wanted to get to a point where we were completely happy with it and not put something out that didn't feel right for whatever reason.”
To support the release of 'Euphoria', Total Giovanni are heading out on an Australian tour. Vachel says the band are excited to play some new venues across the country and revisit their home town of Melbourne.
“We haven't played in Melbourne in ages, so being able to play back there is always a pleasure, and likewise Sydney and Brisbane. I think we have played more shows in Sydney and Brisbane than we have for the rest of the country," he says.
“We don't get to play live as much as we used to these days because I live on the other side of the country. When we get to play together now it's a really special occasion for all us and I think that comes across onstage. We tend to have extra amounts of positive energy to play with.”
For fans attending the shows, Vachel says a collection of new elements and songs can be expected. “There will be a new outfit – we like to try and make sure we have new threads anytime we do some shows.
“We're playing songs off the album. We have the two singles that have come out so far – [we're] playing those live, which is really exciting for us, and some other tracks off the album which would have just come out by the time we do the show.”
'Euphoria' is available now.
