Top Five Australian Jazz Albums With Sean Foran

Sean Foran
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

The Brisbane International Jazz Festival opens with award winning Queensland jazz composers Rafael Karlen, Andrew Butt, Louise Denson and Sean Foran presenting World Premieres.

A graduate from the Queensland Conservatorium, Sean shares his five favourite jazz albums. “This is no easy task. In fact, this top five may change next week, so let’s just say it’s my top five listening this week!"

1. The Necks - ‘Drive By’. An amazing piece of work that transports you to another world.

2. Vince Jones - ‘Live’. Seeing Vince Jones live is a experience to have! This album captures some of that magic.

3. Kristin Berardi & James Sherlock - ‘If You Were There’. One of my most played albums at home... intimate, James and Kristin share a unique duo sound.

4. Andrea Keller Quintet - ‘Thirteen Sketches’. Andrea has been highly influential as a pianist and composer, and I'm always captivated by the detail in her writing. This album is one of her best.

5. Mike Nock - ‘Touch’. A solo piano album from one of the most influential musicians in the country. Wonderful stuff.

Commissioned exclusively by Jazz Queensland, Rafael Karlen, Andrew Butt, Louise Denson and Sean Foran present ‘World Premieres’ as part of the Brisbane International Jazz Festival at the Queensland Multicultural Centre on June 4.
