Melbourne singer/songwriter, Lauren Glezer, is set to release her debut EP, ‘Searching For Tall’, on 19th September.

The folk-pop artist will launch the EP with a trio of local shows starting this weekend. Before then, Lauren shares her top five folk artists of 2014. “So, it's obvious to me that folk is on the rise. Indie folk to be specific. I am lucky enough to be part of the Melbourne music scene and at the heart of this wonderful community is folk. Folk, folk, folk.

“There is a wonderful gathering that happens in Melbourne on the first Sunday of every month at Graceland. Musicians come from far and wide to play at this community warehouse event. Out of all the acts that play, the majority of them are folk artists.

“I have a philosophy, and it is that folk is really a ‘bare-all’ genre. I guess that's what we want to do as musicians – we want to give you our hearts. That's why for me, it's all about folk, folk, folk!”

Passenger

He'll be my top folk act every year! He's funny, he's sweet, he's deep — he got soul! Who doesn't love a famous musician that still busks? My favourite track would have to be ‘Let Her Go’.

Philemon

Now this is one soulful woman. A poet, a songstress and an opening act for my EP launch on 20th Sept at The Wesley Anne (mind the shameless self-promotion). Check out the single she released earlier this year, ‘Frame’.

Al Parkinson

I love this girl and what she's about. This year she released a beautiful single called ‘Like This’. If you haven't heard it, check it out. Al is such a wonderful musician to see live. She is totally herself and this shows with her incredible music.

Roesy

This man is liquid poetry. An Irish folk singer/ songwriter, and SO much more. This is just a coincidence, but he too will be opening my EP launch. I believe he will be releasing an album soon called ‘Wolf Counsel’, but until then, check out ‘Forever All’. No words to describe the wonder that is this man.

Ben Abraham

His voice just kills me it's so beautiful… not to mention his tunes. Ben's vocals cut right through to the heart. His music is quite an incredible experience. Check out his new single ‘Speak’, off his upcoming album. I believe Gotye produced the lead vocals. How cool!
