10 High-Profile Song Rip-Offs

The Rolling Stones
Founder and Publisher. Based in Brisbane.
Howard started Scene Magazine in 1993. Paul Keating was Prime Minister. Whitney, Janet and Mariah all had Aussie #1s and Mark Zuckerberg was 9. Over 30 years he's overseen the growth of scenestr magazine to become Australia's largest – and only national – street press while forging a digital-first imperative for the title in the mid-naughties. He's judged more battle of the bands than he cares to remember and proud of the myriad media partnerships the company has earned across the music, arts and comedy sectors. He likes Star Trek and a good Oxford Comma – way too much fun at parties.

In 2014, barely a month passes without a high-profile claim of songwriting plagiarism, or in the case of One Direction, a claim of video clip rip-off (their 'You and I' clip falling foul of claims from the makers of Clubfeet's 'Everything You Wanted').

Users of the popular list compiler channel WatchMojo.com encouraged it to create a Top 10 of song rip-offs. Quite apart from the irony of our showcasing their list, we think it's a rattler. We won't tell you who's nailed down the #1 spot for almighty rip-off-of-the-century (perhaps millenium), but when you get there, one wonders how the artist ever had the gall to pass off this mega hit as his own work.
