Apparently I saw these guys about 18 months ago at the same venue… I have no memories of that affair.
But there was no chance I'd forget this show from Friday night.
I've been spouting to anyone who would listen for the last six months (probably longer, but who's counting?) that Thundametals are THE next thing in Australian hip hop. After seeing Tuka, Jewson and DJ Morgs at The Zoo Friday I need to revaluate. Thundamentals ARE Australia's best musical export…. RIGHT NOW. No doubt in my mind.

Witnessing these cats own the crowd, yet be so inclusive was a marvel to watch (I was that long-haired, green t-shirt-wearing lout dancing to the left of the stage; sorry for the sweat showers guys). They had me on the balls of my feet from the first bar… and I didn't let up for next hour or so.

Beginning the first part of the show with material from their first two LPs: 'Sleeping On Your Style' and 'Foreverlution', the Thundas had the packed crowd swaying as one. I'm crap with song titles... but trust that the boys fully exercised their rap chops street-cred intact.
But it has been the release of 'So We Can Remember' that has elevated Thundamentals songwriting prowess; yeah they still rap, but they have the heart to let their own souls shine through their lyrics.

Personally, 'Smiles Don't Lie' is my jam. I've played it 100+ times in the last year or so; and it still doesn't wear thin, and once the first couple of blunted, piano stabs filled the room, I was gone, dancing till I'd worn holes in my soles.
'Something I Said' and 'Quit Your Job' were fellow standouts while 'Noodle Soup' ranks up their – alongside the finest efforts by Regurgitator and Bluejuice – as one of Australia's best parody-joke songs ever.

I can't wait till the lads drop their next instalment; or till we cross paths at Splendour.
