After having 2019 off and then getting sideswiped by COVID, the sister festival of Hunter Valley staples Dashville and The Gum Ball, Thrashville will return in 2021.
At this stage, due to NSW Government's Music Festivals Act, Thrashville – slated to take place on 13 February – can only reveal four bands on the line-up as it's the current legal limit of the number of acts that can play an event on any given day.Heavy sludge duo Astrodeath, chainmail loving, epic hard rockers Battlesnake, energetic punks SCABZ (with a freshly minted single, the menacing 'Pressure') and modern melodic thrash metallers, Newcastle's PurEnvy are the four, handpicked bands to join the Thrashville 2021 line-up.
Organisers are eager to ensure punters that they have every intention of the festival going ahead in 2021 in whatever form is achievable.
Worst case scenario will see Thrashville become a multi-day event to meet social distancing restrictions. Best case, Thrashville can proceed as a COVID-safe festival as intended if current restrictions placed upon the live music industry are lifted.
"How is it that a million people can congregate around inner-city Sydney to watch a fireworks display?" Dashville promoter Matt Johnston asks.
"Or 40,000 people can attend a football match, or 5,000 people that can attend a regional showground for a community fair.
"But you can't have more than four acts or five hours of live music in an outdoor venue? The exclusive restrictions on the music industry are untenable."
