Australian pop-rock band The Whitlams will return to the past to celebrate the band's first three albums as part of the Early Years '93-'97 national tour.
Set to join the band – who'll be tributing their 1993 debut LP 'Introducing The Whitlams', 1995 sophomore album 'Undeniably The Whitlams' and 1997's 'Eternal Nightcap' – will be another Aussie legend and double bass extraordinaire, The Living End's Scott Owen. The Whitlams are no strangers to the hypnotic power of slapping catgut that is the double bass, which features on their debut single 'Gough', their crossover hit 'I Make Hamburgers' and the frenetic 'You Sound Like Louis Burdett'.
Owen will join the first hour of the show as The Whitlams play select cuts from their first three records.
The second part of the show will occur during the performance of their biggest hit 'No Aphrodisiac' (from 'Eternal Nightcap'), which marked the band's evolution onto electric bass, with the reflective first half of the song being recorded on double bass, and the second half on electric.
At that moment Whitlams' bassist Ian Peres (the group's newest member) will move from the Hammond organ onto bass as the band (Peres joined by Tim Freedman on piano and vocals, Jak Housden on guitar, Terepai Richmond on drums) bring the show home with a string of their hits like 'Blow Up The Pokies' from their latter discography.
"Scott and I have been talking about this idea for five years, and at last our schedules have clicked," Tim says.
"Terepai and Scott will absolutely explode in these early songs, and it will be thrilling to hear the energy that Andy Lewis brought to the first line-up so long ago on stage once again."
Tickets on sale from 25 May.
