Set to celebrate its 35th birthday in 2023, Brisbane's live music venue The Tivoli will be hosting a best of concert series dubbed ENCORE throughout the calendar year.
With more artists to be announced in the coming months, the first six bands scheduled to perform as part of ENCORE feature some of The Tivoli's most regular performers. The Waifs (seven peformances), Cog (six performances), The Smith Street Band (five performances), Sunnyboys (four performances), Meg Mac (four performances) and Thundamentals (three performances) will all take to The Tivoli stage in the first half of 2023.
Thundamentals, Meg Mac and The Smith Street Band will all be performing new material alongside their respective back catalogues, while The Waifs will be celebrating their own milestone – their 30-year anniversary.
The Sunnyboys gig will be bittersweet with the Queensland rockers embarking on The Last Dance - Their Farewell Tour in 2023 – a decade after reuniting after a 21-year hiatus.
Australian metal-hard rock titans, Cog's appearance at The Tivoli will be as headliners for The Other Festival, a full day of metal, prog and rock featuring Osaka Punch, Bare Bones, The Stranger and more.
"ENCORE is a celebration of the artists and performances that have established The Tivoli as the beating heart of Brisbane's live music scene," Senior Producer, Madison Stevenson says.
"The ENCORE programme features a hand-picked selection of artists and musicians that form the deep musical heritage of The Tivoli.
"Each ENCORE artist has been a catalyst for some of the greatest moments that have taken place within the old girl's four walls. We couldn't think of a better way to celebrate her 35th anniversary."
Since Ann Gams opened her doors as a live music venue in 1988, The Tivoli has welcomed a who's who of the international and local music scenes to the stage including Bob Dylan, Noel Gallagher, PJ Harvey, Gene Simmons, Taylor Swift, Nick Cave and Slash.
While Brisbane greats like Ball Park Music, Regurgitator, The Amity Affliction, Violent Soho and Powderfinger cut their teeth at the famed venue located in Fortitude Valley.
Ownership of the venue changed hands in 2016 when Steve and Dave Sleswick purchased the venue that had been earmarked for development.
Stevenson continues: "We want to celebrate the vibrant spirit of The Tivoli and honour the artists who have made the venue a tried-and-true icon of Brisbane's music scene.
"At the heart of ENCORE is the opportunity for the music-loving people of Brisbane to come together and relive their favourite live music memories, or create totally new experiences.
"The artists we've programmed are household names in Australian music, all of which have progressed beyond playing a venue of this size.
"ENCORE offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for fans to see their favourite artists in an intimate setting once more."
