The Temper Trap's Jonny Aherne delves into his childhood memories to create his first single 'Once Upon A Hilltop', under his new solo moniker Shacks & Palaces.
But to be clear, the Aussie-born, Brooklyn-based bass player has not left The Temper Trap; he is simply exploring the solo world – scratching that itch so to speak.'Once Upon A Hilltop' paints a sparkly picture of indie-folk charm. “The song started with a challenge to write about something beautiful," Jonny says.
"Love, adventure, and imagination became the parameters of its creation."
Jonny's musical talent is clearly diverse. This is prevalent through his bass playing and supporting vocals in The Temper Trap, but also creating ambitious songs that have infectious melodies and 'boomerang hooks', the fundamentals to forming a hit.
“I felt like a kid as I wrote this song, letting go of adulthood complexities and embracing the wild childlike hope lands that still dwell on me.”
The video that accompanies the release 'Once Upon A Hilltop' embodies the spirit of childhood as it features his two, young children who dance their way through everyday experiences.
