The Strokes Release Their First New Album In 7 Years

The Strokes
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Seven years since The Strokes released 'Comedown Machine', the American post-punk rockers are back with new album 'The New Abnormal'.

The record features already released singles 'Brooklyn Bridge To Chorus', 'Bad Decisions' and 'At The Door' as well as another six indie-rock burners and electro-inspired garage bangers.

The band recorded at Rick Rubin's Shangri-La Studios in Malibu, with Rubin also producing the album. 'The New Abnormal' cover artwork is a painting by the late Jean-Michel Basquiat, Bird on Money.

The Strokes are also using their spare time during quarantine to record a new, ongoing pirate radio show. "Hello prisoners of earth," the band begins, "like many out there we are staying pretty much at home and keeping to ourselves.

"We wanted to see if we could connect with folks, and turned what was supposed to be a pirate radio thing for our album release (which we would make in-person) into a video chat instead: 5 guys talking about things they know nothing about.

"In light of everything that's been happening, we hope this distracts you during your quarantine. Love The Strokes."

'The New Abnormal' is available now.
