The Southern River Band Share 5 Summer Tourist Attractions In Thornlie, Western Australia

The Southern River Band headline Rosemount Hotel's (Perth) NYE festivities.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

In a world where starting off a biography with 'in a world where' is the norm, The Southern River Band are apparently no different.

In the very same world, where labelling oneself is encouraged, The Southern River Band neither know, nor care how to fit themselves into these pigeonholes.

Head south on Perth's so-called 'freeway', jump on Roe Highway, hang a right on Nicholson Road, go through the busiest roundabout in Australia, and you'll find yourself in Thornlie, the home of The Southern River Band.

A country town in the heart of the suburbs, where the jukeboxes stock very little other than the very same songs you would've heard reverberating out of them in 1970s.

Band member Cal shares five of Thornlie's biggest tourist attractions.

1. Lakers Tavern

Located opposite Forest Lakes Shopping Centre, or as it’s more commonly referred to: ‘A shop-a-holic’s wet dream’, Lakers Tavern is the heart and soul of Thornlie, the cultural hub of the south-eastern suburbs, and with its stunning new, spacious renovations, there’s no better place to cop a smile, a drink and a yarn while you're in town… tell ‘em Cal sent ya.

2. Consulate Court

Or as it’s known by the world – The Christmas Lights Street. As December rolls around, the whole place lights up like a wonderland and people come from far and wide to witness the multi-award winning cul de sac sparkle like an exploding transformer. One for the whole family.

3. Thornlie Leisure Centre/ Skatepark

Cool off in the crystal clear, tranquil, turquoise waters while taking in the beauty of the native flora that surrounds the naturally heated springs. If mad, gnarly shreds is more your ting, dog, grab yourself a razor scooter and a pack o’ darts and drop in wit da squad to get lit fam 5,000.

4. Spencer Village International Food Hall

Culinary delights of the highest order from all over the world. Located in arguably the most sought after spot in town. Exit the train station, tearfully bid your new friends that you no doubt made on the train goodbye, hop over the bridge and take your pick from over 3 (!!!) probably-not-hazardous-to-your-health-anymore fine dining institutes.

5. The People

What is a place without its people? Well it’s a people-less place, I guess. But here in paradise, sorry, ah Thornlie, we’ve got ‘em all.

From Bose to Bear, Nick who knew Barnesy when he was a kid, He who walks Forest Lakes Drive, the lead singer of The Southern River Band's Mum, The Tree Man and Daniel Kerr if the Lions are playing at home, just to name a few. We are one, but we are many, and we’d love nothing more than for you to join us.

The Southern River Band headline the New Year's Eve festivities at Rosemount Hotel (Perth). They also play Prince Of Wales (Bunbury) 29 December and The River (Margaret River) 30 December.
