After only playing live nine times in 2020, The Smith Street Band were eager to get back to work once COVID-19 restrictions were eased in Victoria.
But facing the prospect of performing to socially-distanced seated audiences, the band decided to revisit ten songs from their back catalogue with the aim to create a batch of semi-acoustic, alt. country, punk numbers. The first sample of this project – a ten-track album titled 'Unplugged In Wombat State Forest' – is the colonial-punk joy of 'It's OK' (lifted from their 2020 album 'Don't Waste Your Anger').
The Smith Street Band will play shows in Bendigo and Warrnambool, before a three-date stop at Forum Melbourne (two dates have already sold out) before heading to Sydney's Enmore Theatre.
The band will return to NSW when they play Wollongong's Yours & Owls Festival in April.
'Unplugged In Wombat State Forest' will be available in limited coloured vinyl, CD/DVD packs and cassette tapes from 5 March, 2021. Pre-order it.
