The four original members of international supergroup, The Seekers, are to receive one of Australia's top honours — the Officer Of The Order Of Australia (AO) — in the 2014 Queen's Birthday Honours.
Previously, group members Judith Durham, Athol Guy, Keith Potger and Bruce Woodley, were each named Australian Of The Year for 1967.
In 1995 The Seekers were inducted into the Australian Record Industry Association's (ARIA) Hall Of Fame, while Durham was also honoured with the Medal of the Order Of Australia for services to music, as an entertainer and composer.
The announcement of their AO awards comes in the group's Golden Jubilee year, celebrating 50 years since their first million-selling #1 smash "I'll Never Find Another You". It was followed by two more chart-toppers, "A World Of Our Own" and "The Carnival Is Over", before The Seekers became the first Australian artists ever to top the US charts with Georgie Girl".
Judith Durham said, "We were just four unknown, aspiring Australian musicians, singing happy, uplifting, melodic and inspiring songs, and being true to ourselves. We hope that this award might serve as encouragement to other Aussies to do the same. We are thrilled to accept such an honour."
The Seekers are touring the UK after they completed a run of sold-out Australian dates in 2013 as part of their 50th-year celebrations.
