Brisbane band The Reversals have a new single, ‘Coming Down With You’.
Keyboard player Matt Green says the track represents a new direction for the band. “It's probably a little bit of a different direction to [first single] ‘Squeeze’. 'Squeeze’ had this pop-rock vibe, where ‘Coming Down With You’ probably has more of an indie-rock vibe with some elements of pop in there. It's a little bit of a different style.
“We were planning to release a single and at the time it was a different song, but Nathanael came down with an illness which struck him for close to three months and he was basically locked in his room in bed not doing anything for quite a number of weeks.”
Working with ideas brought to him by his bandmates, Nathanael began filling out the lyrics and building a story for the song while he recovered. “The lyrics and the storyline actually evolved from his bedroom so to speak,” Matt says.
“It was really written about two lost or two troubled souls and how they come to find each other through the world and the energy bringing them together.”
Having made their musical way playing support slots for artists like Deena and Julia Henning, Matt says he and the band are excited to headline their own show when they launch ‘Coming Down With You’ in their hometown this month. “I love a good Brisbane show, that's our home.
"We've played the Black Bear Lodge before and love it; it's a great venue, really intimate place; [the launch is] going to be a really good night, so looking forward to releasing the single.”
The Reversals play City Sounds at Post Office Square 18 September.
