The Return Of Gold Fields

Gold Fields
Gabbi has watched Brisbane's comedy, film and arts scene thrive since joining scenestr in 2015. Catch her at the Powerhouse with a G&T in hand any day of the week.

After spending the majority of 2015 writing and producing new material, Gold Fields will join forces with Triple J's House Party host KLP, and tour nationally in June.

The Ballarat band have been touring and making music since 2010. What began as a quintet of high school mates who decided to start a band has become a worldwide sensation, seeing them perform gigs across the world. Their debut album, 'Black Sun', was released in 2013, and along with single and EP releases, they've also had the opportunity to perform at a range of Australian festivals.

However, after taking time off to focus on writing and producing, this year sees Gold Fields' return with new music, new direction, and new energy. “After touring for so long, everyone needed a bit of a break to find their feet back at home and not have to worry about touring or playing shows or whatever, so we took some time off. In that time we've been releasing remixes and improving our production skills,” guitarist Vin Andanar says.

Their new single, 'Lakeside', features co-headliner KLP. The musicians met through social media after KLP shared her excitement for GF's last release with her Twitter followers. After months of discussion about collaborating and touring together, the dream became a reality. “She's great,” enthuses Vin. “She's a hard-working musician and really takes it seriously. We're collaborating on a song together at the moment which we will hopefully get out during the tour for people to hear. But she's very inspiring!”

Gold Fields are looking forward to bringing their new music to their fans. “[Touring] is one of our favourite things to do, so it's good to be back on the road again. And touring with KLP is awesome, so it should be a pretty fun tour ... Playing live is such a different thing to being in the studio, and I guess it's nice to be able to share what you've done in the studio with a wider audience and try to recreate that live.

“The tour will have a lot of energy because we haven't been playing for a long time and we've been building up the energy. And it'll be a lot of fun – I don't think we have done a co-headline tour for a long time! The last one we did was a very long time ago. It's always good to share the tour with one of your friends. There'll be a lot of new music, and I think we might even have some after parties at most of the shows which we will DJ at!”

As for the remainder of 2015? It's a rinse and repeat job for Gold Fields. "Just focusing on the album, and then we'll start collaborating a lot more as well; keep putting out music and then I guess we'll look at touring again if people wanna see us play – that was something we were known for when we were busy, we didn't stop touring, so I think the main focus is writing and releasing new music and then we'll organise some more shows."
