The band co-founded by Al Anderson – renowned for his work with Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer during the golden era of Jamaican music – The Original Wailers return to Australia to celebrate reggae's greatest album.
'Legend', the compilation album featuring the best of Bob Marley and The Wailers (released in 1984 after Marley's death in 1981), captures the soul of reggae, delivering messages of love, freedom, and unity. It holds the distinction of being the highest-selling reggae album of all time, and has spent 1,185 weeks in the Top 100 of the UK Albums Chart – the third-longest run in that chart's history – as well as 886 nonconsecutive weeks on the US Billboard 200 albums chart – the second-longest run in that chart's history.
This tour celebrating the 40th anniversary of 'Legend' will see Al and his band – Chet Samuel, Rohan Reid, Howard Smith, Noel Aiken – headline concerts in Fremantle, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in November.
A record saturated with timeless classics, 'Legend' features Marley's most classic and influential tracks. From the hopeful 'Is This Love' and the uplifting 'Three Little Birds' to the powerful social message of 'Buffalo Soldier' and 'I Shot The Sheriff' as well as the anthems 'Could You Be Loved', 'No Woman, No Cry', 'Get Up, Stand Up', 'Jamming', and 'Redemption Song'.
"My music will go on forever," Bob Marley declared while he was alive. He was not wrong; and in a time of global crises, upheaval and uncertainty as to what the future holds, these songs speak to the heart of humanity, bringing people together with their messages of peace, resistance, and love.
"One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain," Marley once said. The Original Wailers with Al Anderson carries Marley's legacy forward while evolving the sound of roots-reggae.
