The Morning Caffeine Playlist To Ignite Your Day Shared By DICE

DICE are an indie rock band from Western Australia.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

WA's fuzz-psych indie rockers, DICE's first single of 2022 is the tasty brew of sparkling guitars, driving drums and energetic riffs of 'Double Espresso'.

A track focused on the benefits of coffee to survive 'large' weekends partying, DICE will release their debut EP in March.

"'Double Espresso' explores the exhaustion that results from partying too hard going hand in hand with playing consecutive shows, and the consequences of relying on coffee to get through the seemingly never-ending weekend resulting in countless sleepless nights," DICE says.

The band are signed to the recently launched Tone City Records that's home to Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Pond and Abbe May.

"We will be launching 'Double Espresso' 18 February at Mojos Bar in Fremantle, one of the pioneer venues for Perth music where acts such as Tame Impala and Spacey Jane played their first ever shows," enthuses the band.

The Brand New Heavies - 'Jump N' Move (feat. Jamalski)'

Gets me groovin' every time without failure. Vocals that emanate positivity with that bassline makes having a dance near impossible let alone having a slow start to the day. Coffee substitute for sure. - Regan (bass)

Marlena Shaw - 'California Soul'

This song always ends with a smile on my face and fills me with joy no matter what time in the morning. - Caspar (drums)

Chutney - 'Talk'

The way the vocals can transition styles between the verse and chorus is something unique and captivating. Along with the catchy melody, the track is empowering and gets the blood pumping. - Ben (vocals and guitar)

Lime Cordiale - 'What's Not To Like'

There is something extremely infectious about this track and I can't quite put my finger on it, there is so much going on however it all just works.

When I jump into the car to head to work at 5am it's the first song I play; and it's definitely got my pick for a Top 10 spot in this year's triple j Hottest 100 [it placed #41]. - Tom (guitar)

Plastic Bertrand - 'Ca plane pour moi'

Although I have no clue what is being said apart from that the chorus translates, from my rough understanding, 'it's all working out for me', this song still fills me with joy as I belt out the chorus feeling like I'm manifesting a good day. - Regan (bass)

The Rions - 'Night Light'

This track resembles how I want to create my own style of music. The vocals ability to go from a soft, soothing tone to an emotionally-packed chorus line is something I want to find in my own voice. To capture the beauty of music and what the lyrics and song is about. - Ben (vocals and guitar)

Easy Life - 'Have A Great Day'

The English outfit create the perfect tunes to wake up to in the morning, with relaxing harmonies that make you feel as if you are still asleep.

This track is the first one I put on while opening the shop – the title says it all and puts me in a great mood, no matter how I slept. These guys are seriously underrated and I can't wait 'til they make it over here for a show because I'll definitely be the first one to grab tickets. - Tom (guitar)

Olivia Rodrigo - 'Good 4 U'

This song reminds me of great times whether it's belting it out in the car or the time we attempted to cover this song (cheers AJ from Spici Water).

Still trying to think of a happier day than when after weeks of nagging the boys agreed to attempt the song. Now a band favourite for sure. - Regan (bass)

The Terrys - 'Melbourne Bitterz'

This track reminds me of how good the Australian music culture and lifestyle is. It's bright, a bit rough around the edges, but that's what makes it so authentic which is why it resonates with me so much. - Ben (vocals and guitar)

Lynrd Skynrd - 'Free Bird'

An all time classic, which I only really discovered fully last year that made it into the top 10 of my Spotify Wrapped. Possibly, if not definitely, the greatest guitar solo of all time that constantly inspires me every time I put it on. - Tom (guitar)

Humble Armada - 'Los Alamos'

'There's something about the first few chords of this track that inspires an uplifting and infectious warmth, just like the first coffee of the day. - Caspar (drums)

S Club 7 - 'Don't Stop Movin''

Song gets you moving from the get-go, but once that female lead vocal comes in and the song starts building, the excitement builds too. Then that chorus and there's no sitting me down or denying me a boogie. - Regan (bass)
